After spending the past season on FX's American Horror Story: Freak Show, the Emmy winner has been tapped to star alongside Cheryl Hines in NBC comedy pilot Cuckoo, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Based on the British series, Cuckoo revolves around a daughter (Rachel DiPillo) coming back from a summer abroad married to a charming but infuriating eccentric named Cuckoo (YouTube personality Flula Borg), much to her father's annoyance.Shield alum will play Ken, the father of the family. The character is described as an attorney who's shocked when his beloved daughter returns from a summer in Thailand married to Cuckoo, a hippie "wise man," and no longer plans to attend law school. Hardworking and driven, Ken is the opposite of Cuckoo, who has now moved in with the family.
For Chiklis, Cuckoo marks both a return to comedy and NBC, where he previously starred on family comedy Daddio, which ran for two (abbreviated) seasons in 2000. His credits also include various guest voices on Fox'sFamily Guy and Seinfeld as well as regular roles on dramas The Commish, Vegas and No Ordinary Family. He's repped by WME, Management 360 and Stone Meyer.
Hines, meanwhile, will play the mother, Lori, Ken's wife, a carefree woman who sees the best in people and thinks Cuckoo is bringing about a good change in her daughter. The role marks Hines' latest following ABC's Suburgatory and Curb Your Enthusiasm. She's repped by WME, Principal
